Kokum Butter is extracted from from the kernel of mangosteen fruit. After the cosmetic industry discovered Kokum butter a higher demand has pushed for more yields of kokum butter. To meet the demand several manufactures started extracting Kokum butter using chemical solvents.

I carry both UNREFINED Kokum butters the white which is COLD-PRESSED and filtered and the brown which is STEAM BOILED and Pressed. As you can see from the link "raw" kokum butter is steamed, ground THEN pressed so you are actually purchasing a COOKED product while White Kokum butter is COLD-Pressed and filtered to remove the seed bits, twigs and bugs.
