Ever wondered what Pine Tar Soap is? You will be amazed at the healing properties of Pine Tar Soap.

My Grandmother immigrated from Budapest, Hungary in the late 1930's. I grew up working on the family farm and she taught us the Old World way to make soap. On soap making day (once a year) She would notch the pine trees in Southern Louisiana and hang a small bucket underneath to collect the sap.

After the boucherie (yearly slaughter) all the fat would get rendered in a huge black cast iron pot. Lye was made the week before (oak burned to ash, rain water added then cooked down until a FRESH hens egg floated) then all the soapmaking truly began. She used cast iron mold she brought with her through Ellis Island.

Using my Great Grandmother's recipes for our basic soaps we make our soaps using the cold-process method to keep the therapeutic properties of the natural ingredients. With traces of sulfur and iodine, it is a good soap for irritated skin and itching.

Pine tar soap has been used for hundreds of years to treat eczema, psoriasis and other forms of dermatitis. It moisturizes dry, scaly skin and helps it heal. Pine tar soap is safe to use anywhere on the face and body, and is also used as a shampoo.

Our Pine Tar Soap is a specially formulated recipe based on an Old World recipe that is truly a wonderful soap for problematic skin. Our customers have told us this bar works great on eczema, dermatitis, dry skin, psoriasis, acne and even poison ivy. The reviews speak for themselves!

According to commercial manufacturers, the use of pine tar soap as a shampoo is recommended by many barbers as a way to soothe the skin on your scalp while imparting necessary moisture to your hair. You can also use our Pine Tar soap in place of your usual shaving cream to provide a comfortable barrier between your face and razor blade.

The most common use of pine tar is to treat and prevent skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema, scabies and more. The pine tar soap can be used as an effective treatment for oily skin or clogged pores.

Our 30% uses Lavender Oil which Added to your bath or shower to relieve aching muscles and stress. Massaged on your skin as a relief for muscle or joint pain, as well as for skin conditions like burns, acne, and wounds.

Our 70% uses Rosemary Oil which is also beneficial for dry and flaky scalps. Regular massaging of the scalp with rosemary oil nourishes the scalp and removes dandruff. It is a disinfectant that has antimicrobial and antiseptic qualities that make it beneficial in efforts to eliminate eczema, dermatitis, oily skin, and acne. Regular use helps in toning your skin and removing dryness. It can also give your skin a healthy, even glow.

The 70% has organic Leaf Lard, the 30% does not.

In a 2003 study, researchers found that of 144 test participants who inhaled rosemary oil during an exam displayed significantly higher cognitive function.

A study released in 2007 said that inhaling rosemary oil and lavender oil for five minutes significantly reduced the levels of cortisol in the test subject’s saliva, which could seriously decrease the dangers inherent from chronic stress.

The same study which found that cortisol levels decreased after simultaneous massage and inhalation of rosemary essential oil also found that the scavenging free radical activity in the test subjects’ bodies also increased significantly. This means that regular use or inhalation of rosemary essential oil in aromatherapy sessions or in other ways can increase the strength of the immune system and help combat all of the diseases associated with free radicals, including cancer and heart disease.

A number of studies have now shown the essential oil of rosemary to be an effective option for reducing the symptoms of the Herpes virus in test subjects, and even affects the level of contagiousness of the virus.

This soap gives off a rather strong odor, and should be kept for the use on problematic areas.

Veterinary

According to Botanical.com, pine tar water is an old remedy used to break up congestion and to treat coughing in horses. Pine tar has antiseptic effects, and has been mixed as a salve to treat cuts, abrasions and skin rashes. Applied topically, oil of pine tar may be effective on mange.

I use the 30% on small dogs and animals (NOT cats, they are EXTREMELY delicate and cannot metabolize essential oils). Use the 70% for larger animals.

Dandruff

Flaky scalp conditions that cause dandruff respond to pine tar soap or shampoo. The pine tar heals the scalp and returns dry, itchy skin to normal, reducing or eliminating dandruff.

Poison Ivy, Poison Oak and Poison Sumac

Pine tar soap soothes the rash of poison ivy, oak or sumac. Washing the affected area can stop the itch and dry the rash, speeding healing; but you must use COLD water. HOT water will exacerbate the condition and cause the oils to spread and infect more area skin. Ask me how I know this!! J
Insect Repellent

Before World War II, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers recommended the daily use of Packer’s Pine Tar Soap as an insect repellent. The scent kept mosquitoes, chiggers and ticks at bay; while the soap soothed the skin and kept it healthy. Another use for your pets, dogs and critters are irritated by bug bites just like we are.

Cleans Brushes

Over time your make-up brushes become encrusted with dead skin and facial oils; this can be easily cleaned with our Pine Tar soap!

Wet bristles under gently running water; I use a small bowl to dip in as I was several at one time.  Carefully rub bristles across soap. Rinse with gently running lukewarm water and wipe your brush against a paper towel. Tip: Be careful not to get the brush barrel wet, as it will loosen the bristles and cause them to fall out.

My pine tar is from Sweden as it's unavailable in the US thanks to the EPA. If anyone does say they sell Pine Tar or any other tree resin they are selling it illegally. I have a hazard license to import my pine tar. It is the purest form available, under EU regulations.

As with any new product always test for a potential allergic reaction.
